Choosing just one is quite a challenge. I fear it is one that I simply cannot meet. Thus I present two less mainstream options, as I am sure the ALW, Kay, and Leroux will be very well covered by others.
“Stay here close to me and let me know just how you feel. Don’t be afraid; the mask was made for me and not for you.” from Phantom of the Opera on Ice
and “I watch and wait to see if time will bring a new crowd who will judge me differently. Yet, every night they say the orchestra is too loud. But they love the scenery.” from the Rupert Holmes song.
And if we are counting things that simply are reminiscent of Phantom I would like to present, “If I can see past your affliction, why can’t you see past mine? Why do you care what people may say? Why try to fit into their design? One of these days you will look back in shame. After you’ve learned that a spark’s not a flame. You will regret how you pushed love aside. When you’re married to NOTHING, when you’re misery’s bride!” from Side Show. Actually the whole song You Should Be Loved is very Phantom like.
It should be interesting to read what others pick.

There are so many. My favorite one is from an as yet published novel, so without the author’s permission I cannot post it. But I do believe you would approve.
“All I wanted was to be loved for myself.” Which is all any of us really want and seldom get.
“It’s not true! He’s not ugly, he’s not some kind of monster! I won’t let him be ugly…I won’t let him be!” This sums it up pretty well for me.
“I sang only for you…and that night I gave you my … Soul.” Wish I could.
do with them what you will
As always, Your Knight Phantom
There are two quotes in particular that have a special significance to me, that I would delight in sharing with you.
“If I am the Phantom, it is because man’s hatred has made me so… If I shall be saved, it will be because your love redeems me,” -Taken from the 1925 silent movie.
“Only love and music are forever,” -Taken from the 1989 movie.
I look forward to viewing the choices others have made. Until then I bid you adieu.
-Song in the Night
I will give my two favorites of late:
Love is the only thing that can be divided endlessly and never diminish
and
Never place a period where God has placed a comma.
Hello Ms. Linforth,
I am especially fond of your second entry. Where was it taken from?
Greeting Song in the Night!
I was away doing a signing and walking from my hotel to the bookstore when I spotted that on a huge banner outside of a church.
Stopped me dead in my tracks. It is wonderful, isn’t it?
Cheers!
Jennifer
I have two:
“You try my patience!”
“…a disaster beyond your imagination will occur” (I use this one all the time. As a screensaver – “Touch this Computer and a Disaster Beyond your imagination will occur” and anything else I don’t want appropriated in my office.
That’s easy for me. It’s the underlying theme of my book, and it’s why I believe the story is so popular. A cry of humanity and a basic need of us all, spoken by Erik and penned by Leroux:
“All I wanted was to be loved for myself.”
Unconditional love and acceptance.
From the Yeston/Kopit “Phantom”:
“If your mother could look upon your face and love, why can’t I?”
