Miffed

One thing you do not want is for me to get irritable.  I’ve notice through doing a tarot reading today that not many have been visiting the new “journal” site. It would do you good to visit.

Don’t disappoint me.

Journeying Home

When I reached the train station I again paid an errand boy to send a message to the telegraph office. This message I was having sent to the persian’s flat in Paris. I knew he would not be in, but he always had a man-servant on staff. I knew that he would know where to find Nadir, even if I didn’t have the time to find him, and perhaps he would get a post dispatched to him on short notice. The note was simple and to the point. Christine ill. Need herbs for chest ailment. Send to Giry. Traveling via train back to Paris. E

I thought that if perhaps by some miracle he was able to at least get some of the herbs she needed to her, most of which were in his apartment already, then she might have a better chance than if the medical doctor was the one in charge of her care. By the time my train reached the next station, I had a telegram waiting for me. It was from Nadir.

Good friend. I have sent requested herbs and more to Giry. You might talk to John Tyndall staying in Paris. Physicist and bacteria expert. Safe travels my friend.

I sent a post back to him, thanking him. Also, I had to bugger him about the book. I’m sure he loved reading that post. Once I get back into the city I must find this John Tyndall the physicist. Well, there is plenty of time to think of what to say to such a man, but I needed to rest, yet my mind wouldn’t let me knowing that Christine’s very life was in danger. I wondered what would be waiting for me once back at the Opera. What would I find as I came in, would Christine be alive or dead? I prayed that her body would at least hold out until I got there, I prayed that she would live, even if not with me, just that she would not die.

Back to Paris

Today we were completing the rnovations on the chapel, I had been working day and night to get things done, and had made great progress until the post came today. As tedious and painstaking as the finishing touches were, I was taking great pleasure from sanding the last beam to perfection when my assistant brought me a letter. Apparently Madame Giry had been trying to reach me for two days before the letter found me. As I read the note I dropped the sandpaper, and started walking towards the house to collect my things. I barked out a few orders on what I wanted the men to continue doing, there wasn’t really that much to finish, my mind reeling from the words I was trying to comprehend

Erik. I am sorry to have to write you in your absence. I have done all that I know how to do, but I am extremely worried about Ms. Daae. Christine was feeling ill when you left, if you recall, we thought it was just a cold. I have called in a doctor, but I am afraid he has not been much help. His exact words were, “If she lives she will be stronger than ever, but if she does not…” He is not holding out much hope for her, she is coughing something terrible, her body gets weaker as each moment passes. I fear for her life now. Meg is standing vigil during the day, and I at night, she can barely walk on her own. I fear that lapsing in and out of consciousness is coming next. In all my years, I have never seen anything as dreadful as this. Please advise.

As I collected my belongings my mind was racing, going back and forth between what remedy would be best for her situation. Damning myself for leaving when she was ill, why did I go? I paid a stable boy to go into town as fast as he possibly could and send a telegraph to the Opera House.

Tea infusion. Honey ginger lemon green tea horseradish. Will be home shortly.

The weekend is upon us and what might I have for you this weekend? Perhaps and update on my work here in Spain, possibly I might rant about something that infuriates me.. workers that can’t seem to get mortar consistency correct., or might I just relax and tell you a story that will peak your interest?

Come back tonight and find out what I have for you. For now the day is new and I must take a little time to read.

If Thou Must Love Me

If Thou Must Love Me, Let It Be For Nought

By Elizabeth Browning

f thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love’s sake only. Do not say
“I love him for his way
Of speaking gently, for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of ease on such a day”
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee, and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity’s wiping my cheek dry,
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love’s sake, that evermore
Thou may’st love on, through love’s eternity.

The Chapel and the Fig

So, I have thoroughly settled into my lodgings. I am staying with an acquaintance on the outside of Madrid, he has graciously opened his home to me and has asked me to repair some of the structures on his estate. One of those being a small chapel that is starting to crumble slightly. I took a look at it today, it needs new mortar in places, and some of the interior wood beams have a large amount of rot on them. After looking it over, I decided to journey into town to price materials.

I came upon a small street market, and saw a fig stand. I recognized the person selling the figs, and after paying out the nose (ha) and tipping graciously I now know that the daroga was, indeed, in town a few days ago. Or, to be more precise, three days ago. He was the one that brought the figs to market. Nakisha could not seem to recall where he was headed next until I brought forth more coin. After that, she suddenly remembered that he was headed to Barcelona next. I was only a few days behind him this time, but one day I will catch up with him, and for his sake, he should hope that I am in a very tolerant mood.

So, the restructuring project will get started in a couple of days, I’m sure it won’t take too long to complete. Tonight I have to work on my new specs for the building and get things organized for the remodel. I believe that tomorrow I will start demolition on the pieces that need to be replaced. As for now, I just need to start my drawings so I have a clear idea of which way this project is going to go.

Rude People

Again, society isn’t polite. Just an FYI, for all the slow people. If you are writing a book and you want me to read it, do not sign my email address up at some document hosting place to get emails. I will delete them. If you would like me to read your book, send me an email inquiry first. Just a little common sense. I don’t track down your email address and ask for royalties off your book up front, I would wait for at least the second communication between us first. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
